A wave holds its shape for a moment and then it does not. That is the whole subject here: the second when the water is still curved and lit from behind, just before it comes apart into white.
I photograph these from shore, waiting, because there is no way to arrange them. The wave arrives or it does not. What I can choose is where to stand and when to release, and everything else belongs to the water.
There is more color in these than in most of my work, gold at the crest, deep green inside the curl, blue in the collapse. The light passes through the wave rather than falling on it, and for that moment the water is lit from within.

Each photograph is available as an archival pigment print in an edition of ten, printed by me on Hahnemühle German Etching paper. Prints are signed and numbered, and sizes are available on request.
Please write with the title of the image you are interested in, and I will send pricing and available sizes.
