Elevation
Buildings printed in cyanotype: brick, arched windows, a colonnade, a dome against sky.
The chemistry here has a history with this subject. Cyanotype was the blueprint process, used for most of a century to reproduce architectural and engineering drawings. Every building I photographed was once described on paper in this same blue. Making these felt less like applying a process to a subject than returning something to the form it started in.
I coat the paper by hand, so the edges are uneven and the brush marks stay visible. The blue is not uniform. Architecture is usually photographed for its precision, and I wanted the opposite: buildings held in a material that shows every trace of the hand that made the print.
Prints
Each photograph is available as an archival pigment print in an edition of ten, printed by me on Hahnemühle German Etching paper. Prints are signed and numbered, and sizes are available on request.
